From a nationally recognized football team to new swimming and women's golf teams, the Marshall Thundering Herd has 14 varsity sports that are supported by the  community, alumni and students.

The Birke Art Gallery is a venue which is valuable to students in two significant ways. First, it offers the developing artist the opportunity to interact with the work of professionals in the field and to listen to presentations concerning craft and concept by the exhibiting artist. Second, it serves as an exhibition space for the students – annually in the form of the Student Juried Exhibition and, for graduating seniors and graduate students, individual and group shows as part of the Capstone Experience.

An undergraduate student volunteer service organization in which the members work with the office of Recruitment and the Alumni Association. With these departments, the Marshall University Student Ambassadors host alumni and friends, assist with student recruitment and retention, as well as host Presidential events and more.

The National Student Exchange Program allows qualifying students to study for up to 2 semesters at participating universities and colleges for the price of their Marshall University tuition. In order to qualify for the program, students must be in good academic, financial, and social standing with the university as well as have a minimum of a 2.5 overall GPA.

The Marshall University Theatre Department offers students opportunities to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Fine Arts with a major in Theatre in two areas of emphasis: Performance and Production. Students may also elect to minor in Theatre or in Dance. Students will discover that majoring in Theatre is excellent preparation for graduate school, for careers in theatre and the entertainment industry, including film, television, public relations, law, medicine, sales.

WMUL broadcasts on the FM band at 88.1 MHz and is licensed to the Marshall University Board of Governors. Its studios are located on the second floor of the Communications Building at Marshall University, and its 1150-watt transmitter sits on the roof of the Science Building. WMUL has been broadcasting in the Huntington region since Nov. 1, 1961.
