The Big Sandy Superstore Arena sits on a five-acre tract overlooking the Ohio River in downtown Huntington. Sheathed in warm gray rough textured concrete block in a deep terra-cotta color, the building features exposed aggregate red metal panel and bronzed glass. Creative landscaping and a modern art sculpture add a complimentary note to the exterior plaza and lawn area.

Its roots began in the bygone era of the streetcar. By the late 19th century, almost every large town in America had streetcars and many had parks to boost weekend and holiday traffic. Originally developed as a picnic area by the Camden Interstate Railway in 1903, Camden Park has survived into the 21st century as a thriving traditional amusement park.

The Huntington Symphony has been around since the 1930's in various forms, sometimes disbanding for several years, and sometimes forming as the smaller "chamber" orchestra. Some of the musicians who were with the original Huntington Symphony Orchestra through the 1950s still play with us today.

Central City, before being settled, was an area where people would assemble for hunting parties and family gatherings along the banks of the Ohio River. Around 1890, a group of investors organized a land company and bought up several farms just west of Huntington, West Virginia. This area and the resulting town were called Central City. Reports indicated it was given this name because it was centrally located between the towns of Catlettsburg, Kentucky and Guyandotte, West Virginia. Almost immediately, Central City became a flourishing manufacturing town from what was originally farmland, to a population of nearly 2,500 in just one year.
